Welcome to My Blog!

Waterfall in the Japanese Garden, Portland, Oregon.

I have a “writing spouse,” Nadia. We meet every week and give each other feedback and encouragement over cupcakes.

I was in a rut. I was submitting to lit journals and only getting rejections. I had sent off my screenplays to some agents and producers and was only met with silence. Much of the writing life is about patience and waiting, but I felt adrift. Maybe it was time to finally start a blog, an idea I’d been mulling over for years.

Nadia said that a blog would be grounding. “It’s hard when you’re alone writing all day long,” she explained. “When you commit to a blog, you’re doing something concrete. You’re not just making characters have conversations in your head.”

I’m ready to start this new adventure. When I’m traveling, I will post about my journeys. When at home in Portland, I will post about the writing life, veganism and happenings around town. Travel posts coming up: A day-by-day recounting of my trip to China in April and highlights from New Zealand, Argentina, Chile, and Germany! Plus, how to get started with submitting to literary journals.

Give me a few minutes and I’ll distract you from your office blues! I plan to post on Monday and Thursday mornings in the first two weeks to see how things go. : )

Happy reading,

Stephanie

    • Thank you! It’s pretty bad when you read “WordPress for Dummies” and wonder if there’s “WordPress for the Absolutely Hopeless,” but I’m happy with how it looks and will continue to learn more.

  3. Good for you! I started my blog in 2009 as a companion to a writing website I had at the time; I eventually eliminated the website but kept the blog, and do find that my weekly entry keeps me grounded. Keep it up! 😀
